More and more, we seem to be living in a 2D flat-screen world. Are we losing sight of our place in our 3D world?

What is spatial awareness

Explore the senses to expand your experience of living in a 3D world for improved balance, poise and grace.

* Designed as a follow-on from Replacing Tension with Ease. However, it is not a prerequisite for registration into this series.

According to the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, we have five senses. Buddhist psychology speaks of six saḷāyatana – Aristotle’s 5 plus a sixth, the mind.

Today’s neuroscientists say we have way more than that, possibly as many as 18.

So there’s the opportunity to discover more about how we perceive the world around us, but also to play with each of the more familiar five senses and see where we can expand our interaction with life, the universe, and everything.

Course Outline

  • Week 1 : Nose feather

    Begin to see distance, texture, and form from a new perspective.

  • Week 2 : The eyes - the only externally visible part of the brain

    Discover a new way of viewing the world around you.

  • Week 3 : The vestibular system and balance

    Building on the work we did in the first group class, we'll begin a more in-depth exploration of the vestibular system and how it relates to balance, and to our sense of ourselves in distance space and time.

  • Week 4 : The powerful sense of touch

    Bringing conscious control to touch as we interact with the environment around us with a new sense of space and timing.

  • Week 5 : Where does taste live

    Be prepared to have your understanding of digestion turned on its head as we play an explorative game with taste.
