The Alexander Technique is learned through one-on-one lessons with your teacher to address your individual concerns, interests and needs.
Using their hands and verbal instruction, your Alexander teacher works with you in simple movements such as walking, sitting, standing, or speaking, to guide you through actions you would normally take in your everyday life.
“You can’t do something you don’t know, if you keep on doing what you know.”
~ F. Matthias Alexander
The Alexander Technique is about simplicity, free choice, and awareness.
Consider that the way we move and act is usually habitual, and for the most part, we’re unaware of our habits.
Unfortunately, these habits are often the source of pain or discomfort, and they directly impact our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
The first step in changing a habit is to become aware, to notice what you’re doing.
Of course, the game is to be able to pause in the moment before the habit kicks in.
And if you’re not going to do your habit, what are you going to do, and how will you do it?
“It looks like we are working on the body, but use patterns are held in the brain. We are looking to change our unhelpful ‘default’ patterns of use back to ‘factory settings’.”
~ Penelope Easten
With the Alexander Technique, you discover that you have a choice about how you move, think and act.
And that’s a very remarkable experience.
You become more present, empowered, and confident to approach everything you do with a new-found freedom, balance and ease.
The Alexander Technique is experiential, and each student of the technique has their own unique story about what they experience, how they feel after a lesson, and the difference it makes for them.
If you’d like to find out more, why not come in for a lesson and discover what’s possible for you.
